Kanakapura police shoot at two history-sheeters in the leg during escape bid

RAMANAGARA: The Kanakapura town police opened fire at two history-sheeters early on Sunday morning after the duo allegedly assaulted the police and tried to escape arrest. The arrested are Harsha alias Khaima and Karunesh alias Kanna. Both were wanted in a criminal case.

The two history-sheeters had escaped after chopping off the left hand of a Dalit youth, Anish, at Malagalu village in Kanakapura taluk last week. Following their heinous act, Dalit organisations had protested demanding the arrest of the accused.

On Sunday morning, the police had gone to arrest the accused after receiving accurate information about their location. However, the accused tried to escape by assaulting the police.  Circle Police Inspector Mithun Shilpi and Sub-Inspector Manohar shot the accused in the leg near Valley School Road in Kaggalipura.

The accused and the injured police personnel Rajashekhar and Shivakumar are being treated at a hospital.
