BENGALURU: Here is someting to cheer for those who regularly travel between Bengaluru to Ramanagar. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has taken the first step towards extending the Metro network to the neighboring district.

As part of the plan, a tender has been called to prepare a feasibility report for the Metro expansion project up to Bidadi in Ramanagara district. A feasibility test is conducted before taking up any project. The report will study the technical, social and economic aspects of the project. Once the report is finalised and is approved by the state government, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared.

The BMRCL had invited tenders at a cost Rs 1.59 crore to conduct a feasibility study for the expansion of the metro project in three phases. A Hyderabad-based company has been tasked with preparing the feasibility study for the expansion of the Metro line.

The tender was invited by BMRCL in February for the preparation of a feasibility study report on the Namma Metro project expansion of 50 km and construction of 68 km of new routes. Now the tender is finalised. The BMRCL expansion plans includes projects from Challaghatta to Bidadi (15 km), Silk Institute to Harohalli (24 km), and Bommasandra to Attibele (11 km).

The new line will also connect Kalena Agrahara to Kadugodi Tree Park via Jigani, Anekal, Attibele, Sarjapur and Varthur (52.41 km).

The state government has given permission to expand the Metro network to Ramanagara, and the BMRCL is working on it. The metro expansion project will connect Ramanagara to Bengaluru, reducing the pressure on the city.

The project will also boost industrial development in the region. Currently, thousands of people travel from Bengaluru to Ramanagara daily by bus and this project will provide them with a convenient mode of transportation.
