BENGALURU: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a high alert for heavy rainfall in the state for the next five days.
The coastal region is expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall, with a red alert issued for three districts today and tomorrow, followed by an orange alert for the next three days.
An orange alert has been sounded for the north-interior region for today and tomorrow, while a red alert is sounded for the southern interior region, including Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts.
Bengaluru may experience moderate-to-heavy rainfall. The next 3-to-4 days are expected to be cloudy with the possibility of rain.
Karnataka has been experiencing severe weather conditions, with heavy rainfall causing flooding and landslides in several areas. The situation is particularly dire in Uttara Kannada, where multiple houses and fields have been destroyed. Holidays for schools and colleges have been declared in various districts due to heavy rain.
There was heavy rain across Hunsur taluk in Mysuru district on Monday, and on the instruction of the district administration, a holiday was declared for schools and colleges across the taluk. The Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has ordered a holiday for Anganwadis, government, aided, private schools and colleges in the district on July 16.
In Udupi district, the meteorological department has issued a red alert, and Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari has ordered a holiday on June 16 for all schools and undergraduate colleges. The degree, postgraduate, engineering, ITI, and diploma colleges will be open as usual.
In the wake of storms and rain across Kodagu district, district education officers have issued a circular announcing a holiday from Anganwadi to schools and PU colleges across the district tomorrow.
A holiday has been announced for Anganwadi, Primary and Secondary, and pre-university colleges in 10 taluks in Karwar, Kumata, Ankola, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Sirsi, Siddapura, Yellapur, Joida and Dandeli taluks. Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya has ordered holiday schools and colleges to continue as usual in Haliyal and Mundagod talukas.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Mahalingaiah has ordered a holiday for all pre-degree colleges in Sakleshpur, Alur, Arakalagudu, and Belur taluks of Hassan district due to rain. Schools and colleges in other places will continue as usual.
