Dr Suriraju V, Urologist Regal hospital Bangalore revealed recently the initiation of the inaugural Rezum surgical intervention for benign prostatic hyperplasia in Karnataka, which was conducted on a 68-year-old individual.
This method employs water vapour to reduce prostate tissue, enabling the patient to be discharged on the same day. Dr Surirajuv, a senior urologist at Regal hospital, explained that the procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia, involving the insertion of a needle through an endoscope into the prostate for the administration of water vapour at high temperatures. This approach offers the advantage of a pain-free discharge on the same day.
