Three children die after drowning in water body near Ramanagara

The children drowned in a water body formed on a rock.

RAMANAGARA: Three children among a group of eight died after drowning in a water body amid a huge rock atop a hill near Achchalu village in the taluk on Friday. They had gone for a swim in the water body after offering Friday prayers.

Police and firemen search for the bodies of the children.

The deceased are Shahbaz (14), Sultan (13) and Riyan Khan (16), all from Sultan Nagar in Ramanagara. Shahbaz and Riyan are brothers. The Ramanagara Rural police and firemen rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies. A case has been registered in this connection.

“The boys had gone to the water body to click pictures and three of them got into the water when they slipped and fell. The other boys alerted those who were nearby”, said Arif, councillor of Ward 18.

“Eight boys, aged between 8 and 16, had come to this water body. They are children of labourers. The state government should help the families of the victims”, said Parvez Pasha, a local.
