BELAGAVI: In an early morning shootout, the Belagavi police fired at a rowdy, who is an accused in the murder of realtor Raju Doddabommanavar, when he allegedly attacked a police constable and attempted to flee.
Three police teams, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Narayan Bharamani, had set out to nab rowdy Vishal Singh Chouhan who is wanted in several cases.
Chouhan, who was attempting to flee on a motorcycle, attacked constable Yasin with a knife at Dharmanath Circle in Veerabhadreshwara Nagar under Market police limits.
The ACP immediately fired two rounds at Chouhan’s leg. The incident occurred around 3.30 am.
Chouhan, hailing from Chikka Nandihalli village in Kittur taluk, was staying in Shastri Nagar in Belagavi.
He is wanted in nine cases including attempted murder, robbery and dacoity. He was also involved in a case of contract killing.
