BENGALURU: The Baiyappanahalli police have arrested nine people for their allegd involvement in foeticide and prenatal diagnosis. The accused including Shivanjegowda, Viresh, Naveen and Nayan were arrested in October and Dr Tulasi Ram, Dr Chandan Ballal and Meena, lab technician Nissar, private hospital receptionist Reezma were the arrested later.
Based on the confession of Shivananje Gowda, Viresh, Naveen and Nayan the others were arrested on charges of foeticide.
Later, the police continued the investigation and succeeded in tracing the networks of Chennai-based Dr Tulsiram, Mysuru’s private hospital receptionist Reezma, Dr Chandan Ballal and his wife Meena, lab technician Nissar, who were behind the crime.
A total of nine people used to commit the crime systematically. They used to commit foeticide on about 20 to 25 foetuses every month. About 900 fetuses have been killed in the last two years, the investigation has revealed.
The first case was registered in October last year. The police seized the scanning machine along with accused. Police sources said that the act was taking place in a hospital in Udayagiri, Mysuru. Baiyappanahalli police have registered a case in this connection and are continuing the investigation.
So far, Mata Hospital in Udayagiri, Mysuru, and an ayurvedic centre on Rajkumar Road in the city have been shut down by the police. It has come to light that the killing of fetuses was taking place in the ayurveda centre itself.
East Division DCP Devaraj has said, the case was registered in Baiyappanahalli 15 days ago. Four persons from Mandya collected information of those who come to Bengaluru hospitals for scanning. Following the information, the police arrested the four accused and interrogated them. The scanning was being conducted in a concrete sheet house in Kabbinagadde, Mandya. The police raided and seized some medical equipment, including a scanning machine.
During further investigation, the polcie found that some hospitals and doctors were involved in criminal activity. Dr Chandan Ballal and his wife Meena Ballal of Mysuru, who runs Mata Hospital are involved in the case. Another doctor, Dr Tulasiram was working as an agent for Rizwan. It has come to light that this gang has been involved in the crime for the last three years. “We are continuing the investigation and looking into the case from all angles”, the DCP said.
