RAICHUR: Mild tremors, measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale, was felt in areas around the Hutti Gold Mines in Lingasugur taluk around 2.51 am on Monday.
The tremor lasted for about 14 seconds and was confirmed by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre. The tremor was felt in Hutti, Nilogal, Veerapura and Gejjalagatta, but there was no damage, according to the agency.
While the cause for the tremor is being investigated, blasting of rocks could also be a reason. The exact cause will be known after a detailed study, according to Deputy Commissioner Chandrashekar Naik.
Hutti Gold Mines is the oldest underground mine in the country and the tremor has led to anxiety among the locals.
