CHITRADURGA: Over 30 people fell ill after consuming contaminated water at Nagasamudra village in Molkalmuru taluk on Wednesday. It is suspected that sewage may have entered the drinking water pipeline to the village.
A Health Department team, which is camping in the village, has sent water samples for test. Taluk health officer Dr Madhukumar visited the village and took stock of the situation.
Two women, who fell seriously ill, have been shifted to VIMS in Ballari. Arrangements have already been made to treat those who develop any health complications and an ambulance has also been stationed there to shift serious patients.
Villagers alleged that negligence of the gram panchayat officials led to contamination of the drinking water and demanded action against them. Officials on Thursday held a meeting with the villagers to create health awareness.
