BENGALURU: Metro services on the Purple line were badly affected on Monday morning due to signalling issues, causing much inconvenience to commuters. However, normal operations resumed in the afternoon.
The problem started early in the morning with Namma Metro tweeting at 7.35 am saying, “Expect delays on purple line, due to signalling issues. Staff are working to normalise…”. There was a rush of passengers at all the stations on the Purple line between Kengeri and Baiyappanahalli as trains were running late during peak hours.
Some Metro users said that the rush was such that people could not even get out of the stations or get in. With no proper information, tempers also flared. The number of trains operating on the line was also brought down to 14 from 19.
Namma Metro later switched to manual signalling to clear the peak hour rush and took up restoration work on the signalling system. Around 12.10 pm, normal operations were resumed, according to
“Since it was peak hour, there was some disruptions as we had to switch to manual signalling. Operations were stopped at 12 pm and the issue fixed in 10 minutes after which normal operations resumed. Due to the signalling issue, trains were run at intervals of 7 minutes instead of 4.5 minutes”, he explained.
