Policemen caught red-handed taking bribe from container truck driver, suspended

TUMAKURU: An assistant sub-inspector of police and a head constable attached to the Kallambella police station have been placed under suspension and an inquiry ordered after a video of them taking a bribe from a container truck driver was captured on mobile phone.

The two policemen, identified as ASI Chidananda Swamy and head constable Chikkahanumaiah, had parked their vehicle by the side of the highway and took Rs 200 from the driver of a container truck transporting sheep from the Chitradurga APMC yard. Despite the driver having a receipt for the tax paid, the policemen took a bribe from him.

The policemen were confronted by locals after they took a bribe from a truck driver transporting sheep.

The entire incident was captured on mobile phone by some locals who took the policemen to task. They even got the ASI and the head constable to return the bribe money to the truck driver following which the policemen apologised to the locals who gave them an earful.
