IPS officer B Dayananda took the charge as the new Bengaluru city police commissioner on Wednesday

BENGALURU: Senior IPS officer B Dayananda on Wednesday took the charge as the new Bengaluru city police commissioner. The outgoing Police Commissioner, Pratap Reddy handed over the baton to mark the transfer of the charge.

Addressing a press conference, Police Commissioner Dayananda said, “Bengaluru is a cosmopolitan city. I am grateful to the government for allowing me to work as the police commissioner of the city. People have faith in the police department. I will work towards maintaining their faith. I was born and brought up in Bengaluru. I feel proud to say that I am a Bengalurean”.

He further said, “There are many challenges. I will handle them successfully. There is a need for advanced technology in Bengaluru. The police system should be close to the citizenry”.

The commissioner said, “Cooperation between different departments is essential for city traffic management. We will manage the traffic by coordinating with the other departments concerned. No decision has been taken on introducng towing again. Its pros and cons will be assessed and brought to the attention of the government”.

Speaking about increasing cyber crime cases, Dayananda said there is a lack of training among the police about cyber crime. “The department is overloaded with registering too many cases. Instructions will be given to register minor cases at local stations”, he said.
