BELAGAVI: Senior Congress leader and former minister D B Inamdar died at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru on Monday night at the age of 75. He was suffering from respiratory ailments. He was admitted to hospital last month, but did not repond to treatment.
Danappagouda Basanagouda Inamdar won for the first time from the Kittur Assembly segment in 1983 as a Janata Party candidate. He joined the Congress in 1994 and had remained with the party ever since. He had contested nine elections and won five times. As a Janata Party candidate, he won in 1983 and 1985 and as a Congress candidate in 1994, 1999 and 2013.
Inamdar had been a minister in the cabinets of D Devaraj Urs, S M Krishna and S Bangarappa and also held various other posts. He was an aspirant for the Congress ticket from Kittur for the upcoming polls, but, given his health condition, the party chose Babasaheb Patil as its candidate.
As a mark of respect, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai cancelled his roadshow which was to be in Kittur on Tuesday afternoon. The CM was to campaign for the party candidate Mahantesh Doddagoudar.
