BELAGAVI: Two farmers, who were on their way to their fields, died after they were run over by an unidentifed vehicle on the outskirts of Godhooli village in Khanapur taluk on Friday. Two others survived with injuries.
The four farmers were heading to irrigate their sugarcane fields when an unidentified vehicle knocked them down, killing two on the spot. They were identified as Mahabaleshwar Shinde (65) and Pundalik Redekar (75). Krishna Redekar (74) sustained serious injuries and is being treated at a private hospital in Belagavi while Manjunath Kaginakar (47) sustained minor injuries.
Former legislator Aravind Patil visited the spot while incumbent MLA Anjali Nimbalkar visited one of the injured at the Khanapur taluk hospital. The Nandgad police have registered a case.
