BENGALURU: In poll-bound Karnataka, desertions, and switching sides have become the order of the day. In the Congress, the high command has denied tickets to many close aides of Opposition leader Siddaramaiah. In Pulakeshi Nagar, Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivas Murthy resigned from the post after being denied a ticket. He has close links with MLA Zameer Ahmed and Siddaramaiah and it is said that Zameer Ahmed is very disappointed with Akhanda Srinivas Murthy’s resignation.
The Congress, which has already announce 166 candidates in its two lists for the 224 seats, and has picked Zameer Ahmed Khan from Chamarajpet constituency.
Zameer had earlier challenged the party’s senior leaders that if the ticket is denied to Akhanda Srinivas, both will contest as Independent candidates. Amid Akhanda’s resignation, it remains to be seen it Zameer Ahmed will contest the Assembly polls from Congress or as an Independent in support of Akhanda Srinivas Murthy. The next political move of Zameer creates interest in the political circle.
