BENGALURU: Corrroded iron gratings at the Okalipuram underpass in Rajajinagar, which is the main thoroughfare to reach Ram Mandir, Magadi Gate and Lulu mall from Majestic, are posing a danger to vehicles. The gratings over the rain water drain have eroded due to constant movement of heavy vehicles and riders experience a sort of vibration when vehicles move on the grating. One of the pieces of grating has even come undone.

The Okalipuram underpass normally sees busy traffic and speeding two-wheelers face the danger of tyres getting stuck between the gratings. Locals say the problem surfaced about two months ago and many people have tripped and fallen here, but the authorities concerned have not taken any action. They have now demanded urgent repair work before any major accident occurs.

Autorickshaw driver Lokesh said they are fed with the traffic and road problems.

Autorickshaw driver Lokesh said, “The BBMP claims that they had fixed the road issues. Rajajinagar always sees busy traffic but the metal gratings are completely corroded. The auto drivers’ union also complained to the BBMP, but to no avail. If we brake while nearing the gratings, vehicles coming from behind may bang into us. Many untoward incidents have occurred on the road and the government should take the issue seriously”.

Two-wheeler rider Uday Kumar said the government should take the road problem seriously before anything untoward happens.

A two-wheeler rider, Uday Kumar, said, “It’s dangerous to use this road regularly. The gragitn is open, posing a danger to two-wheeler riders, as this is a very busy traffic area. The BBMP should pay attention to fixing the road. Vehicles could skid over here and the authorities should take action before anything happens”.
