CHIKKAMAGALUR: A woman and her son had a lucky escape after a cooker gifted by an MLA recently burst in the kitchen while cooking. The incident occurred in Shanuvalli in Koppa taluk on Monday.

The price tag of the cooker presented by the MLA was changed, allege locals.

The woman had kept vegetables for cooking and was in the front yard of the house where the child was playing when the cooker burst in the kitchen. The cooker was recently gifted by Congress MLA T D Rajegowda. The woman later dumped it a little distance away from her house.

Villagers have vented their anger against the poor quality of the cookers.

Relatives of the woman and other villagers have now vented their ire over the poor quality of the cookers. “We have our own cooker, we won’t use this. Luckily, the woman and child were outside the house. All the vegetables kept for cooking were strewn all across the kitchen. Their house is small and one cannot imagine what would have happened if the woman and her child were inside the house”, locals said.

The villagers also pointed out that the cooker is available for Rs 450 online while the price tag on the gifted cookers showed Rs 1,399.
