MADIKERI: A group of estate workers had a narrow escape after a rear wheel of the pick-up truck which was ferrying them to work came off while moving.
The pick-up truck was going on the Napoklu-Parane main road when the left rear wheel suddenly came off at a curve near Bethu village after the axle got cut. The driver somehow managed to prevent the vehicle from overturning.
The labourers were heading to an estate owned by a resident of Kuruli village and about 15 people, including some children were in the vehicle. The incident was captured on mobile phone by an autorickshaw driver who was following the pick-up truck.
“All goods vehicles around Napoklu transport labourers as there are many plantations here. A major mishap was prevented after the pick-up truck’s wheel came off. The police should take action to prevent transport of people in goods vehicles”, said some locals.
