HASSAN, CHENNAI: A 24-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at a lodge after a breakup with his girlfriend in Chennai last Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Karthik, a resident of Sangameshwara Layout in Hassan. For the past four years, he was in a relationship with a girl from Malalli village in Holenarsipur taluk and both families had even accepted their relationship. However, the couple fought over a minor issue and they broke up. She also lied to him that she was working in Chennai.
Karthik then went to Chennai to convince her not to break up the relationship, but realised that she had lied to him about working there. Upset over this, he committed suicide in the lodge where he stayed.
Karthik’s parents and other family members alleged that the girl is responsible for the suicide. A case has been registered at Arambakkam police station and after the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to his parents.
The girl has also filed a complaint against Karthik at the Holenarsipur police station. In the complaint, she mentioned that they broke up six months ago.
“We knew about their relationship. They had met through common friends and they had been in a relationship for four years. After they broke up, she lied to him that she was staying in Chennai. He had gone to apologise and talk to her. But the girl was working in Bengaluru. We feel he died because of her and we want justice”, said Madhushree, Karthik’s sister.
