BENGALURU: A city-based IT professional has written a letter to Special Commissioner (Traffic) Dr M A Saleem suggesting that criminal cases be filed against building owners, municipal corporations and government establishments for not providing adequate parking for visitors. He added that if that is not possible, the rule on slapping citizens with cases for parking in ‘No Parking’ areas should be scrapped.

In his letter, sent by email, Dhananjaya Padmanabhachar held building owners, municipal corporations and government establishments responsible for the current parking mess in Bengaluru and pointed out that there are many government and private offices where there no visitor parking is provided and boards are put up saying ‘Visitor’s parking not allowed’.

Vehicles crow the roads around Metro stations.

“Where should citizens and taxpayers park their vehicles when they visit government/private offices? The government/private offices violate BBMP bylaws which mandate that 10 per cent additional parking space should be provided for visitors’ vehicles, while hapless citizens are slapped with cases”, he noted.

Pointing out that even the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner office complex does not provide parking for visitors, he requested Saleem to pass orders to all government offices to ensure parking space for public/visitors wherever possible and to remove ‘No Parking for Visitors’ signs. All commercial establishments in Bengaluru must also be told to compulsorily provide parking space in basement/cellar, he added.
