BENGALURU: Congress MLA Sowmya Reddy has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai after an under-construction Namma Metro pillar collapsed in Nawagara on Tuesday, claiming two lives.
“The Chief Minister must resign. It’s a clear case of poor work and people have paid with their lives for it. Now, people of Bengaluru and Karnataka are fed up”, Sowmya Reddy said.
“It’s very shocking that an under-construction pillar fell on a woman and child. Until now, there were pothole deaths and now, pillars are collapsing. This is a clear case of violation, negligence and corruption of the BJP government”, she added.
An under-construction Metro pillar collapsed near Nagawara on the Outer Ring Road, killing a woman and her 2.5-year-old son on Tuesday. Reacting to the incident, the CM said that the government will provide Rs 10 lakh compensation to the grieving family from the Chief Minister’s relief fund. “We will inquire how the incident occurred , and provide compensation to the affected family,” he said.
Earlier, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) MD Anjum Parvez also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh for the kin of victims in the incident. He also assured of a detailed probe into the incident and said that steps will be taken to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future. (ANI)
