CHIKKAMAGALUR: The BJP’s national general secretary and Chikkamagalur MLA C T Ravi sought alms on the occasion of Datta Jayanti on Wednesday.
Ravi went seeking alms from Narayanapura, Raghavendra Mutt Road and Basavanhalli Main Road. The maladharis collected coconuts, fruits, rice and betel leaves from the residents of the town. The alms thus collected will be offered to Dattatreya Swamy at the Datta Peetha on Bababudangiri Hills. More than 20 maladharis collected alms.
At the Datta Peetha, Hindu priests will perform puja ceremonies for the first time. To prevent any untoward incidents during the Datta Jayanti, over 4,500 police personnel were deployed.
On the occasion of Datta Jayanti, a Shobha Yatra was taken out from Kamadhenu Ganapathi Temple in the city. More than 50,000 devotees and activists of Hindu organisations participated in the Shobha Yatra.
