BENGALURU: Activists of a Hindu organisation was allegedly assaulted when they went to Shikaripalya based on complaints that Bangladesh citizens were living there illegally in sheds. The Hebbagodi police have registered cases based on complaints from both sides.

Dr Nagendrappa said he and some other workers of a Hindu organisation were assaulted by about 100 unknown people when they had gone to Shikaripalya based on information that Bangladeshi citizens were living there in sheds. The complaint was filed against Dr Nagendrappa, Santosh Kartal, Amit, Pawan, Ranjith, Sannidhi and others.

Meanwhile, one Hajiful Sheikh of West Bengal has filed a counter-complaint alleging trespass and assault. He said in the complaint, “We are living in sheds near Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR, colloquially noted as IFMB) hostel in Hulimangala, belonging to one Imtiyaz and involved in plastic recycling work. Around 4 pm on Wednesday, a team of eight people came in two cars and introduced themselves as police. They said we are all Bangladeshis and asked to show our documents”.

“When we refused to show documents as they were not police, they abused us in Hindi language and assaulted us on the leg with sticks, and also kicked us. They threatened us to accept that we are Bangladeshis”, the complaint said.

Reacting to the incident, BJP MLC C T Ravi post in social media saying, “Due to the government’s grace, Karnataka today has become hub of illegal migrants. Near Hulimangala there were illegal migrants. Hindu workers who went to question them were assaulted. This daring act is highly condemnable. Standing on our own land, they are attacking our own people. Whose are those invisible hands giving protection to them? Karnataka is not a Dharma Chathra to feed illegal migrants. Do not sacrifice the country’s security for vote bank”, he said while calling for immediate action.

BJP state president B Y Vijayendra wrote on X, “The @INCKarnataka government’s appeasement politics has emboldened anti social elements to believe they can use violence to intimidate and silence Hindu citizens with impunity! The brutal assault on Dr. Nagendra in Bengaluru, reportedly while he was assisting the police with information regarding suspected illegal immigrants, is deeply disturbing and absolutely condemnable. No individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands or respond to lawful police cooperation with violence. This incident raises serious questions about whether the Congress government’s politics of appeasement is creating an atmosphere where certain anti social elements feel they can intimidate citizens without fearing consequences. urge @PriyankKharge to ensure the immediate arrest of all those involved, order a thorough and impartial investigation, and provide adequate protection to Dr. Nagendra and his family. No one responsible for this violence should be allowed to escape the consequences of the law. There can be no political protection, selective silence or tolerance when violence is involved. Karnataka must never become a place where fear and violence are used to silence citizens. The rule of law must prevail, without fear or favour.
