BENGALURU: The Bengaluru South City Corporation is planning to conduct survey of properties survey using laser meter and satellite technology on an experimental basis to prevent property owners from violating rules by not paying proper tax and to accurately detect property area.

Instead of using traditional tape or videography to measure building area, laser equipment is being used. This equipment will help to immediately calculate accurate distance and area of wall or space through laser dot when clicked standing outside building.

Along with recording details of buildings through a mobile app, the area of outside of building will be marked by creating a polygon on the Google satellite image. Then, the total area of property will be accurately recorded by measuring area of interior rooms and floors through laser device.

This survey method is currently only experimental, and no final decision has been taken by the corporation regarding its deployment. The experimental survey has been undertaken to check whether property owners have declared less tax than actual area or whether they are paying tax properly, said K N Ramesh, Commissioner of Bengaluru South City Corporation.
Earlier, survey was being conducted through drone, and now, the corporation has come forward for novel attempt to conduct survey easily using mobile app and laser meter. Ramesh said if this experimental attempt is successful, adoption of this model for corporation will be examined in the coming days.
