BENGALURU: Thieves attempted to break in and steal from the Shakthi Maramma temple at Singapura Layout in Vidyaranyapura around midnight on October 5, but were unsuccessful. The temple has a history of about 500 years.

Miscreants broke three locks of the temple and entered inside, attempted to break open the hundi and steal the Utsava Murthy. But as the idol was heavy, they could not lift it and pushed it to ground and thieves escaped.

Local residents alleged that even earlier, two attempts at theft had occurred and have demanded to increase security of temple and the arrest of the accused.
