Man cheated of Rs 24.49 lakh with promise of high returns in online fraud

DAVANAGERE: A man was cheated online of Rs 24.49 lakh at Shankar Vihar locality in Davangere city with the promise of high returns.

Believing a message that came on August 8 through WhatsApp, the victim initially had invested Rs 4 lakh. He then withdrew Rs 100 and checked authenticity. Confirming that there is opportunity to withdraw money, he transferred transferred money to bank accounts suggested by the fraudsters.

He first used his savings and invested in the online fraud. Later, he pledged gold jewellery and even took loans from friends and relatives. In online account opened in his name, there was amount of 99.19 lakh. As he was not being able to withdraw, after confirming that he was cheated, he has filed complaint against fraudsters in cyber crime police station.
