BENGALURU: In background of false propaganda that activist Puneeth Kerehalli is undertaking a hunger satyagraha at the Parappana Agrahara jail, the Basavanagudi police have registered a case against the owners of 23 social media accounts.
Puneeth Kerehalli was jailed in connection with a clash during Eid Milad procession in Chamarajpet. The social media posts claimed that Puneeth Kerehalli has been on hunger strike since 20 days as a false case was filed against him.

The South division police wrote a letter to jail officials and sought information about the alleged hunger strike. The jail officials checked CCTV and it came to light that Puneeth Kerehalli he is eating food at the proper time without doing any fasting. After jail officials gave the information along with CCTV footage to the DCP of South division, a case was filed against 14 Instagram and nine Facebook accounts for spreading false news.

Last year, Puneeth Kerehalli had furnished a bond of Rs 10 lakh to the South division police that he will not involve in any case till 2027. However, during the recent Eid Milad procession, he allegedly created commotion under Basavanagudi station limits. The police are now preparing to file another case against Puneeth Kerehalli for violation of the bond.
