26-year-old youth dies in accidental firing while hunting in Chikkamagalur forest

CHIKKAMAGALUR: A youth died after a gun misfired when he and a group of people had gone hunting on Thursday night in a remote village on the forest edge of Koppa taluk in Chikkamagaluru district. The deceased was identified as Chethan (26) from Kademane village near Hiregadde in Koppa taluk.

Seven friends had gone into the forest for hunting on Thursday night. While firing at animals, one bullet hit Chethan. Even though the friends immediately brought Chethan to the Jayapura hospital for admission, he had died enroute itself as the bullet had hit him in the lower abdomen.

The Balehonnur police have taken three of the sevens youths, who brought Chethan to hospital, into custody and are interrogating them. But, the three others who fired the bullet are missing and police are on the lookout for them. Whether the bullet was fired intentionally or if there was a misfire will become only after a thorough investigation.
