CHAMARAJANAGAR: The Forest department finally captured a tiger that killed and ate a farmer, after conducting an operation, bringing relief to farmers and people of several villages.
The tiger, which attacked and devoured farmer Basavanna in Badagalapura of Chamarajanagar taluk, was captured near Maragadakere of Tavarekatte Mole village in Chamarajanagar taluk with the help of tamed elephants Kanchan and Eshwar after it was darted. The captured tiger is male and estimated to be 6-7 years old.
BRT Tiger Reserve Deputy Conservator of Forests B S Sripathi informed that more than 65 people including two drones, dog squad and tribal experts who track tiger trails were involved in tiger capture operation. Farmer Basavanna was killed by the tiger attack in the field, on the evening of September 14 and forest staff of BRT Tiger Reserve had been conducting an operation to capture it since September 15.
