BENGALURU: With the traffic on the Outer Ring Road becoming a hot topic of discussion, especially after a recent video showed school buses, stuck in a jam on the Gunjur-Varthur section in Whitefield, the Bengaluru East City Corporation under the Greater Bengaluru Authority plans to widen the road by acquiring 8-10 buildings.
Schoolchildren and office-goers are forced to spend hours in traffic on the Gunjur-Varthur road in Whitefield. Potholes and narrow road are leading to traffic congestion, with people taking two hours to cover a 4-km distance. This came in for discussion online with people taking the government and GBA to task.
Now, the GBA plans widening of the road in Gunjur, but due to lack of space, 8-10 buildings have to be cleared. The East city corporation and the GBA and mulling acquisition of the properties to enable road widening. Along with that, plan is being formed to develop all roads of Outer Ring Road.
GBA Chief Commissioner M Maheshwara Rao told Public TV, “The corporation commissioner visited Gunjur road recently and examined the situation. The road has been widened and work on widening remains to be done at 3-4 places. The KRIDCL has also taken up work on construction an overpass near Kundalahalli. We have to acquire 8-10 buildings for which we need funds for compensation. First, we will fill up potholes at the 3-4 locations where traffic is slow. The government will decide on whether the city corporation or KRIDCL will acquire the properties”.
