BENGALURU: Footpath vendors who reoccupied spaces despite being issued warnings thrice have been imposed a collective fine of Rs 2.5 lakh so far by the Bengaluru South City Corporation.
Even after being warnings two to three times, some of the vendors got back to business again in places that had been cleared. Now The authorities have warned them of filing FIRs after the joint action committee of the police department, GBA officials is formed.
Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K N Ramesh said that even after the footpath clearance operation, the vendors were doing business again and again in same place. “Till now. we have imposed 2.50 lakh fine and before imposing fine we had given warning two-three times not to do business. But they are doing business again in the cleared place, so we have imposed fine. In the coming days, after the joint action committee with the police department is formed, we will file FIRs”, he said.
Fines are also being imposed on those who dump garbage and debris on roads for violation of solid waste management rules. The Bengaluru East City Corporation is imposing fines on those who come in vehicles and throw garbage on the road and not segretating waste.
Marshals and corporation officials have imposed Rs 10,000 fine on one Harish who was collecting waste without official permission in Ward 54 in Hoodi.
On the Bellandur-Bogenahalli Road in Ward 15, the vehicle of those dumping debris on road was traced and Rs 15,000 fine imposed. Sri Sai Ganesh Nilaya Apartment and Residency Ward 25 of Horamavu was fined 7,500 fine for giving wet and dry waste without segregation.
