CHAMARAJANAGAR: Close on the heels of the gun attack on forest officers at Holemuridatti Karikallugudda in Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, another case of wildlife hunting has come to light in Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary.

Unidentified miscreants have shot and hunted a sambar that had come to drink water in the backwater area of Uduthoraehalla reservoir in Hanur range with a country-made gun. Later, they cut it into three parts and were carrying it in a bag.

On seeing forest department staff who raided the spot based on definite information, the accused left the bags of meat on the spot and escaped into the dense forest. Range Forest Officer Mahesh who visited the spot has registered a case and launched a hunt to trace the absconding hunters.
