Man attempts suicide by jumping in Hemavathi river, gets stuck in sand due to low water level

HASSAN: A 38-year-old man attempted suicide by jumping off a bridge into the Hemavathi river, but got stuck in sand due to the low water level. He was later rescued by firemen.

Chiranth, a resident of Hassan, jumped off a bridge across the Hemavathi river near the Malali bypass road on the Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway-75 on Saturday morning. Locals who noticed this immediately informed the police and Fire and Emergency Services.

In a coordination effort, the police and firemen rescued Chiranth, but he did not disclose why he had attempted to end his life. The incident occured in Sakleshpur town police limits.
