BENGALURU: A woman Home Guard was brutally murdered by her husband who stabbed her multiple times with a knife in front of their children near Pushpanjali Theatre in Mahadevapura on Sunday night. The deceased Manjula (32) was attached to the Mahadevapura police station.
The husband Pradeep Srinivas Kumar had run up huge debts due to his online betting addiction. Upset by this, Manjula had gone to her parental home with their two children.. On Sunday night, Pradeep had gone to call his wife Manjula back home. At that time, he said, “It was my mistake, I’ll touch your feet and apologise”. He then went near his wife and suddenly stabbed her.
Later, he cut his own hand with the knife in an attempt to die by suicide. Mahadevapura police have arrested accused Pradeep. Pradeep stabbed his wife more than twenty times with a knife in front of their children. “Because of betting addiction, my wife and children ended up on the streets. I will die, my wife will also die”, he said in a video before killing Manjula. A case has been registered at Mahadevapura police station.
Whitefield DCP Saidulu Adavat said, “She was working as a Home Guard at Mahadevapura police station and has two children. Two months ago, Manjula had gone to her parental home and her husband Pradeep works as an auto driver. Around 7 pm on Sunday, Pradeep went to Manjula’s house and asked her to return home. When she refused, he stabbed her with a knife. She died due to severe bleeding. The accused also cut his hand. There is no danger to his life. We have arrested the accused and are questioning him”.
