BENGALURU: The Hebbagodi police opened fire and arrested a notorious history-sheeter by shooting him in the leg early on Thursday on the outskirts of the city. The arrested rowdy, Jeeva, was residing in Thiruppalya, Hebbagodi.
Wanted by police in murder, kidnapping, and robbery cases, Jeeva had escaped last week after committing robbery in the Hebbagodi and Electronics City areas. The Hebbagodi and Electronics City police were searching for the accused.
On Thursday morning, police received confirmed information that Jeeva was near Sigena Agrahara. Hebbagodi Inspector Somashekar and PSI Ayyappa went to the spot. On seeing the police, the accused tried to escape into a nearby eucalyptus grove. When policeman Nagesh intercepted him, he attacked the former with a deadly weapon and tried to flee.
Sub-Inspector Ayyappa fired warning shots in the air but, when Jeeva again attempted to attack police personnel, the accused was shot in the leg and arrested. Currently, accused Jeeva has been admitted to Narayana Health City Hospital and treatment is ongoing. A case has been registered at Hebbagodi Police Station regarding the incident.
The accused Jeeva (20) was involved in murder, kidnapping, and robbery cases. A notorious history-sheeter with over eight cases against him, Jeeva had committed robbery in Hebbagodi and Electronic City areas. On Wednesday night, the accused was near the fruit market in Singena Agrahara. Upon learning this, Hebbagodi police swung into action.
A team led by Inspector Somashekar attempted to arrest him. During this, police crime staff Nagesh was attacked. The accused attacked the policeman’s right hand with a dagger. When Sub-Inspector Ayyappa tried to apprehend him, Jeeva also attempted to attack the officer.
At that time, Ayyappa fired two rounds in the air and warned him to surrender. When he did not surrender, Sub-Inspector Ayyappa shot the accused in the right leg and arrested him. Policeman Nagesh and accused Jeeva were shifted to hospital.
