PG student comes under bus on Bangalore University campus, students protest

BENGALURU: A post-graduate student at Bangalore University fell while boarding a bus and sustained serious injuries on Monday morning, prompting a flash protest.

Students staged a flash protest at Bangalore University by closing the gate and preventing vehicle movement on the campus.

Shilpa Shree R, a university student from Kolar district, accidentally slipped while boarding a bus. Since the driver moved the bus even as she was boarding, she lost balance and came under it. She was immediately taken to the hospital. Following the accident, the bus driver and conductor fled the spot, leaving the bus behind.

The university students staged a protest by closing the university gate and restricting entry of public vehicles on the campus. Srinath, an official from the BMTC West Zone, visited the spot.

“The medical expenses of the student will be paid by BMTC. It has been decided to keep a fixed deposit of Rs 5 lakh in the name of the university student,” he added.

BMTC West Zone DC Srinath pacified the protesting students.

A committee with representatives from the BBMP, the Forest Department, the Police Department and students will be formed to take a decision on prohibiting public vehicle movement on the university premises.
