Tanker driver arrested after 7 die in collision involving tractor near Munirabad; 2 children survive

KOPPAL: The driver of a tanker was on Saturday arrested after his vehicle rammed into a tractor from behind, leaving seven people dead, near Munirabad on Friday night. While six people, who were on their way to the Huligemma temple, died on the spot, one injured person died at the Koppal district hospital.

Two children miraculously survived the accident and are undergoing treatment in hospital for injuries. Tanker driver Chandranna is originally from Tamil Nadu and is being interrogated by the Munirabad police.

Ten-year-old Anjali, who is of the survivors, now has no one left to call her own. She keeps looking with hopeful eyes, thinking her mother will come. The child’s condition would bring tears to even the most stone-hearted person. Anjali is undergoing treatment at the Koppal district hospital and has been orphaned after losing her mother.

Anjali, is from Kudligi in Vijayanagara district. Her mother Manjula died on the spot. Her father too had passed away a year ago. Unable to bear the girl’s plight, strangers are helping the child.

Meanwhile, another equally heartbreaking scene unfolded at the government hospital in Hosapete. Three-year-old Mahalakshmi has been left alone after losing both her mother Geetha and brother Bharat in the horrific accident.

Mahalakshmi is from Bhairedaragudda village in Kudligi taluk andmiraculously escaped death in the accident. But at an age when she should be playing, she is silently suffering after losing the shelter of her mother and brother.
