Undertrial makes video call to wife from inside Parappana Agrahara jail; Another caught with phone in rectum in Mangaluru

BENGALURU, MANGALURU: In yet another instance of prison inmates using mobile phones inside jails, an undertrial made a video call to his wife while another tried to smuggle in a device by hiding it in his rectum.

Jail inmates continue to use mobile phones right under the noses of prison officials. An inmate at the Parappana Agrahara jail in Bengaluru made a video call to his wife from inside the jail. The undertrial prisoner, Akbar, has since been released from jail.

His wife had screen-recorded the video call and posted it on Instagram. She also posted a video of his release on Instagram. The video from inside the jail is now viral. The Prison Department has launched an investigation.

In another instance, an undertrial prisoner was caught hiding a mobile phone in his rectum at Mangaluru the district jail. The prisoner had gone to the hospital for treatment and was discharged and brought back to jail. While hiding a mobile phone in his rectum, the undertrial prisoner was caught by jail officials.

The prisoner, Mohammed Tauhid, was admitted to Wenlock Hospital as an inpatient for treatment on April 24 and discharged from the hospital on Thursday. The act came to light when he was brought back to the district prison in Kodialbail in the evening.

The KSISF staff conducted a check as the prisoner entered the prison with a metal detector. After hearing a sound near the rectum, Tauhid was questioned and he confessed to hiding a mobile phone. Police admitted the prisoner back to the hospital. Doctors removed the keypad mobile phone from his rectum. A case has been registered at the Barke police station regarding the incident.
