Man sets wife on fire for wearing nighty in Khanapur village

BELAGAVI: A man set his wife on fire for wearing a nighty at Nandgad village in Khanapur taluk. The accused is Krishnaji Patil.

The victim Manjula Patil sustained serious burn injuries and was shifted to BIMS Hospital in Belagavi and later moved to Goa by family members for further treatment. Manjula has suffered 80 per cent burns and her condition is critical.

The couple reportedly got married eight years ago. It is said that there were frequent fights at home over the wife wearing a nighty/gown instead of a saree, and during one such argument that escalated, he allegedly set his wife on fire.

Locals who heard the sounds of the fight at home reportedly informed the police station. Police rushed to the spot and took the accused into custody and immediately admitted the woman to the district hospital. A case has been registered at Nandgad police station regarding the incident.
