MADIKERI: An American tourist was allegedly raped at a homestay at Kutta in Virajpet. The accused was identified as Vrijesh Kumar, who hails from Jharkhand and works at the homestay.
The incident took place at a homestay called Devi Villa in Kutta. The woman has mentioned in her complaint that she was given a sweet drink mixed with an intoxicating drug, after which she was rapeed occurred.
After the incident, the homestay owner, identified as Vishal, allegedly tried to cover up the case. Reportedly, with the intention that the victim should not contact anyone for three days, the homestay owner cut off the wifi connection.
After three days, the victim left saying she was going to Mysuru and informed the American embassy. Police have arrested both the accused rapist and the homestay owner and sent them to jail.
Officials from the US embassy contacted Mysuru officials via email, and based on instructions from them, a case was registered. On Tuesday, officials from the Delhi and Chennai offices of the Ministry of External Affairs were expected visit the district to gather information.
