RAICHUR: A shepherd lost his right hand after he was attacked by a crocodile in the Krishna river near Hireraikumpi in Deodurga taluk. The shepherd has escaped death and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The crocodile attacked when Honnaguddeppa had gone to fetch water for sheep in the Krishna river. The crocodile suddenly attacked Honnaguddeppa, bit his hand, and dragged him into the river, submerging Honnagudeppa in the water.

Even though he was dragged into the water, Honnagudeppa fought back and managed to come out. While trying to pull his hand away to escape from the crocodile, his right hand was severed. The injured man has been admitted to a hospital in Raichur and is undergoing treatment and is out of danger.

The number of crocodiles in the Krishna river basin has increased, and there is a high risk of crocodile attacks if one is even slightly careless. Therefore, villagers have demanded that the forest department control the crocodiles and that the government provide appropriate compensation to the attacked shepherd.
