BENGALURU: The state government is facing a financial crunch and it is evident from the pending dues for various schemes, including the intercaste marriage incentive programme. Despite promising financial assistance of Rs 2.5-3 lakh to couples from different castes who marry, the government has not released funds for the past three years.
As a result, over 15,000 applications are pending, with many beneficiaries waiting for assistance in major districts like Bengaluru, Mysuru, Belagavi, Shivamogga, Mandya and Tumakuru. The government’s inaction has left many couples in limbo, with their applications stuck in the system.
As per the data, the number of pending applications is:
– 2023-24: 4,826 applications received, 1,016 approved, and 608 pending
– 2024-25: 5,127 applications received, 2,324 approved, and 1,408 pending
– 2025-26: 5,402 applications received, 1,051 approved, and 3,434 pending
The Social Welfare Minister has acknowledged the issue, but the government has not provided a clear solution or timeline for releasing the pending funds. The situation has raised concerns about the government’s commitment to implementing its flagship schemes and supporting marginalised communities.
