BENGALURU: A 29-year-old software engineer was found dead in her home at MEI Layout in Bagalgunte, allegedly due to an astrologer’s prediction that she had a short lifespan. The incident has left her family and friends in shock, as she was set to get married to her boyfriend, a native of Kodagu.
Vidyajyothi’s parents, Umesh and Kavitha, had arranged her marriage and everything was going according to her wishes. However, a few days ago, an astrologer had predicted that Vidyajyothi had a short lifespan, advising them to perform a nine-day puja. The family had been following the astrologer’s instructions, and Saturday was the ninth day. They were planning to offer a tali (sacred thread) to the goddess Maramma as part of the puja.
According to the mother Kavitha, Vidyajyothi was working from home and had been upset about the astrologer’s prediction. She had been performing the puja regularly and had even gone to the temple on Friday. Today, Kavitha had called Vidyajyothi to get ready to go to the temple, but there was no response. When she went to check on her, she found Vidyajyothi hanging from the ceiling.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the matter. Deputy Commissioner of Police D L Nagesh stated that Vidyajyothi had a tendency to get angry over small things and had been upset recently. The police are trying to determine if the astrologer’s prediction had any impact on her decision to commit suicide.
In another incident, a murder has been reported at Manjunath Nagar in Bagalgunte. The victim, Mohan (45), was found dead in a rented house, and the police are searching for the accused, a woman named Bindu a.k.a Urvashi. The police suspect that the murder may have been committed by someone known to the victim, as there were signs of a scuffle in the house.
