HASSAN: Eighteen migrant workers from other states and districts were rescued from a ginger farm at Chatnahalli village in Halebeedu hobli of Belur taluk. The workers were allegedly taken there by two individuals, Nagaraj and Munir, who had promised them work.
The workers were being held captive and not paid their wages. The police received a tip-off and raided the location after which they rescued the workers. The accused, Nagaraj and Munir, fled the scene.
The rescued workers have been provided temporary shelter at Ambedkar Bhavan in Hassan city. The police are conducting health checks and taking further action. The police are on the lookout for the other accused and further investigation is under way.
