BENGALURU: After the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) announced that it would give away stray dogs for adoption, people now are coming forward to take them in.
One woman, Sujaya Jagadish, has adopted 20 stray dogs from the Bengaluru North City Corporation. The GBA has vaccinated, sterilised and tagged the dogs before handing them over to the new owner.
The GBA had earlier faced criticism for feeding stray dogs chicken rice and building shelters for them. Now, the authority is adopting a new approach by giving away the dogs for adoption.
The response to the adoption drive has been encouraging, with people coming forward to take in the stray dogs. The GBA hopes that this initiative will promote animal welfare and improve public health in the city.
The GBA has appealed to the public, NGOs, and resident welfare associations to come forward and adopt stray dogs. The authority is providing vaccinated and spayed dogs for adoption, and hopes that this will help reduce the stray dog population in the city.
