BENGALURU: A health emergency seems to be looming in the state as government hospitals are facing an acute shortage of medicines, according to the Karnataka Government Medical Officers’ Association. The association has issued a media statement claiming that medicines are not being supplied to government hospitals on time.
The shortage is severe, with essential medicines like IV fluids, antibiotics and other emergency drugs in short supply. This is making it challenging for patients to receive proper treatment. Despite repeated requests and meetings with health officials, the situation hasn’t improved, the association said.

The association has expressed frustration, saying that the health department’s flaws are exacerbating the problem. Many health institutions lack funds, despite government allocations for medicine procurement. The issue has been brought to the attention of health ministers, but no serious action has been taken, the association claimed.
The association has urged the health authorities to address the medicine shortage and resolve the issues plating the healthcare system.
