Poacher ‘Mini Veerappan’ arrested for killing tiger in MM Hills sanctuary

Poacher Govinda was found hiding in the Mysuru court premises.

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Notorious poacher Govinda a.k.a Mini Veerappan, has finally been arrested in connection with the brutal killing and mutilation of a majestic tiger in the Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary.

The incident, which occurred on October 3, 2025, had been a major headache for the Forest department. Govinda, the main accused, had been evading capture, but was finally tracked down and arrested by the Forest department team. He was caught while trying to escape from the Mysuru court premises, where he had appeared for a hearing related to the case.

Interestingly, Govinda’s name had been mentioned in a KDP meeting chaired by a minister, where demands were made to apprehend him. The Forest department had also registered a case against him, and several others had been arrested earlier in connection with the case.

Govinda, a habitual poacher, used to hunt animals in the forest with his gang. The Forest department officials have been praised for their efforts in finally capturing the accused.
