BENGALURU: IndiGo Airlines’ flight cancellations continued for the fiftth day on Saturday, causing chaos at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda Airport. Hundreds of flights have been cancelled, leaving passengers stranded across the country.
On Saturday, 37 IndiGo flights were cancelled at KIA while 11 flights departed in the morning, providing some relief to stranded passengers. At the airport, long queues were seen at the IndiGo counter, with passengers waiting to rebook or flight their flights.
Three youths from Shivamogga, Nayaz Khan, Ayaz, and Suhel, were among those stranded at the airport. They had arrived in Bengaluru from Delhi five days ago, but were still waiting for their luggage. “It’s been 5 days, and we still don’t have our luggage. We’re frustrated with Indigo Airlines,” they said.
A family of 30, who had booked tickets to Delhi for a wedding, was also stranded at the airport. “We paid Rs 68,000 each for alternative flights. We’re worried about our son’s wedding, which is tomorrow,” said Madhu, a family member.
Some passengers have been waiting for their luggage for 5 days, while others are struggling to reach their destinations. One passenger, who had booked tickets for his son’s wedding in Delhi, was left stranded at the airport.
The airline has offered alternative flights, but passengers are demanding a resolution to the issue. The airline also has apologised for the inconvenience, citing that resolving the issue overnight is not possible.
The airport administration has increased seating capacity to manage the crowd and is checking boarding passes before allowing passengers inside the terminal. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has formed a committee to investigate the issue.
