BENGALURU: With the city’s roads in a bad shape following weeks of incessant rain, many people seem to be opting for the safety of four-wheelers over two-wheelers. Consequently, car dealers say they have seen a spurt in bookings.
An increasing number of two-wheeler riders, who commute to work, are opting to buy cars because they believe they are more safe in a four-wheeler while commuting on potholed roads. The danger is amplified especially when it rains.
“Rainfall in Bengaluru has been heavy so far. Due to safety concerns, two-wheeler drivers are switching to four-wheelers. The weather will be sunny in the morning and turn cloudy and rainy in the evening. To top it all, the condition of the roads are bad. Taking public transport is not always a great option. The last two weeks saw a 20 per cent surge in car sales. There has also been an increase in the number of inquiries,” says Bhagya, showroom manager of Kataria Automobiles.
“Car sales have surged this year. We have had 20 per cent more inquiries in the previous two months in particular. The number of bookings have also increased as safety is the main concern of customers.” adds Umesh, sales manager of RNS Motors.
“We have decided to buy a car after the recent rain havoc. Youngsters can ride two-wheelers regardless of the weather or the traffic. But it is difficult for senior citizens, small kids, or pregnant woman to do so. We are switching to a four-wheeler mostly for safety reasons,” says Kiran, a car buyer.
