SHIVAMOGGA: A woman attempted to take her own life by dousing petrol on herself and setting herself on fire at a lodge on Sagar Road in the city on Tuesday night. She was shifted to a hospital with serious burn injuries and her condition is serious.
The incident occurred around 10 pm on Tuesday at Ashok Grand Lodge, where the woman, identified as Geetha (48) from Davanagere, was staying with an acquaintance. The two were allegedly arguing, and the woman poured petrol on herself and set herself ablaze.
The woman, who sustained 70 per cent burns, was rushed to McGann Hospital and later shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment. The acquaintance also sustained minor burn injuries.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident to determine whether it was an attempt to commit suicide or a case of attempted murder. The incident occurred in the Doddapet police station limits.
